In your sketchbooks reflect on your first three weeks in this class. How has your perspective of art changed? Have you been able to do things you didn't think you could? How did you feel about the first project?

We have all heard of the figurative and literal roads we travel on the way to adulthood but most of the time, we don't have time to reflect on them. Everyone has those life changing experiences from losing loved ones or to make a choice which leads to severe consequences. Sometimes it is the choices of those that we surround ourselves with, sometimes by choice and other times because we have no choice, that can affect our lives for good or bad. We all have choices that in hindsight we wish we would have made; go here instead of there, do this rather than that, date him instead of her. It is those choices that mold our personalities and perceptions of the world. What are some of these choices that have molded you into the person you are today? What are those moments of change and growth? What have these shifts or moments meant for the path of your life? What are the opportunities you've pursued-the roads taken? What do you believe to be your missed oppurtunities-the roads you passed by?
What IS art? There are many answers to this question depending on how one asks it and what is being referred to. I am asking to you, what is art? Where do you find it? How does one recognize it? Does it matter how art gets made or is the final product the most important part? How has this week influenced or changed your perspective of art?
Who are you? This seems like a very easy and straight forward question, but when was the last time you really tried to articulate an answer? Take the time to ponder (think) and then write about all the aspects of your “self.” Think about where you come from, who your family is, and what is most important to you. Use adjectives to describe yourself, or describe all of the roles you play or have played in your life (student, sibling, ect…). Think about the stories that you tell about yourself- the mythology you have created.
